NACID Recognition of Your Class 12 Certificate for Bulgaria: What It Is and How Long It Takes

Before a Bulgarian university can admit you, your Class 12 certificate must be recognised by NACID, the National Centre for Information and Documentation. NACID's normal term is two months from a complete file. It is the step most often left too late.

The sequence

  1. State attestation of your Class 12 certificate and mark sheet, then the MEA apostille.
  2. Translation into Bulgarian by a translator licensed in Bulgaria.
  3. NACID recognition: a certificate of equivalence.
  4. The university reviews your file and admits you.
  5. The university applies to the Ministry of Education and Science for the certificate you need for the D visa.

Why it delays students

Results come out in May or June, apostilles take weeks, and NACID's term is two months. Students who start in July often miss the September start. Begin with your Class 10 and provisional documents as early as the university allows.

Questions about NACID recognition

What is NACID?

Bulgaria's National Centre for Information and Documentation, which recognises foreign school certificates for continuing into higher education.

Does the university apply to NACID for me?

Many international offices handle it as part of your file; at the Medical University – Plovdiv, the NACID certificate is part of the documents the university reviews. Ask your university who submits it.
