The job search permit
Bulgarian law allows a graduate who held a residence permit for full-time study to get a further permit of up to nine months to look for work or start a business. The sequence is strict:
- Within seven working days of graduation, register as a job seeker at the Employment Agency's local labour office.
- At least 30 days before your student permit expires, apply at the migration office with your diploma, insurance, proof of funds and address.
- Keep in touch with the labour office while you search; AUBG graduates report having to check in monthly.
The law is described in many secondary guides; confirm the current document list at your local migration office before you graduate.

If you find a job
- EU Blue Card: for skilled jobs with a salary above the national threshold. It allows moving to another EU country after a period of work.
- Single work and residence permit: for other jobs, applied for by the employer.
Most employers who hire foreigners in English are IT, outsourcing and customer-service companies in Sofia, and tourism businesses on the Black Sea coast in summer.
