How to Pay a Bulgarian Medical University Directly and Avoid Agent Fraud

Bulgarian universities publish their bank accounts on their own websites, and tuition is paid by bank transfer in euros to the university. No university needs you to pay an agent. MU Sofia even states on its admission page that it has authorised no recruiting agents.

Step by step

  1. Confirm admission yourself

Email the university's international office from your own address and ask it to confirm your name, programme and exam result.

  2. Take bank details from the university website

Copy the IBAN from the university's official fee page, not from a message, a PDF from an agent or a WhatsApp image.

  3. Transfer from a family bank account

Send euros by SWIFT transfer in the student's name and programme as the payment reference.

  4. Keep the proof

Save the SWIFT copy and ask the university for a receipt; you will need it for the MES file and the visa.

Red flags

  • "Guaranteed admission" without an exam.
  • Payment to a personal or company account, or in cash.
  • A request to pay the full six years in advance.
  • An admission letter you cannot confirm by emailing the university.
  • Pressure to pay "today" because "seats are closing".

If something looks wrong, write to the international office and wait for its answer before paying.

Questions about Paying a Bulgarian university

Can I pay tuition to an agent in India?

You can, but you should not. If an agent keeps the money or pays late, your place and visa are at risk. Universities accept payment directly.

What is a seat-booking fee?

Some agents ask for money to 'reserve' a place. Bulgarian medical universities admit by exam result; there is no seat to buy. Ask the university whether any reservation fee exists.

Does the university charge in rupees?

No. Fees are set and paid in euros. Your bank converts the rupees; compare the bank's rate with the ECB rate to see the margin.
