Study in Bulgaria Without IELTS: Which Universities Test You Themselves, and When a Certificate Is a Must

Yes, at several universities. The Medical University of Sofia tests English in its own entrance exam; the University of Economics – Varna runs its own English test; AUBG accepts Duolingo. Where a B2 certificate is required, as at Plovdiv and Pleven, the alternative is a paid preparatory year.

Some universities accept a letter from your school that you studied in English; others do not. Ask in writing before you rely on it. The visa itself does not require IELTS.
