How to Prepare for the Bulgarian Medical Entrance Exam in Biology and Chemistry

Unlike Russia or Georgia, Bulgarian medical universities choose students by their own entrance exam. For an Indian student who has prepared for NEET, the content is familiar: school-level biology and chemistry. The difference is the format, and at Sofia, English in the same exam.

What is tested

  • Biology: cell biology, genetics, human anatomy and physiology, and the main body systems; the level of Classes 11 and 12.
  • Chemistry: general and inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and basic calculations.
  • English: at MU Sofia, part of the same exam; elsewhere a certificate or a separate test.

Common mistakes

  • Relying on NEET physics strength: physics is not tested.
  • Ignoring English at Sofia, where it can fail you on its own.
  • Registering late: some sittings fill up, and the documents deadline can fall before the last exam.

Questions about Bulgarian medical entrance exam

Is the Bulgarian entrance exam difficult?

For a student who scored well in NEET biology and chemistry, it is manageable. The main risks are a weak subject, time pressure and, at Sofia, the English section, because failing one part fails the exam.

Can I take the exam from India?

Yes, where it is online: the Medical University of Sofia and the Medical University of Pleven hold online sittings. Check the technical requirements before the day.
