Getting around
Sofia has four metro lines, trams and buses. A monthly student card costs €7.50 for all lines, €4.60 for the metro alone, or €3.50 for one surface line. The metro reaches the airport and the main university areas, Studentski Grad included.

Where students live
Studentski Grad, the "student town" in the south-east, has the dormitories of several universities and is full of cafés and shops. Many foreign students prefer to share a flat closer to their faculty, especially medical students, whose clinics are spread across the city. Rents are the highest in Bulgaria; plan more than the €500 a month minimum that smaller-city universities quote.
Jobs and the embassy
Sofia's IT, outsourcing and customer-service companies employ English speakers and are the main source of part-time and graduate jobs for foreigners. The Embassy of India is at 4 Alfred Nobel Street; it notes that there is no Indian students' association, so new arrivals usually find each other through university groups.
